Travel Pass
From TheStudentWiki
Travel Passes are really useful if you live far away from your campus. There are a variety of different passes available; depending on the modes of transport and operators in your area. The benefits of a travel pass is that it almost always works out cheaper if you use a service every day and saves you having to mess about with change.
The main UK bus companies are First, Arriva and Stagecoach and each of these sell daily, weekly, monthly, termly, quarterly and annual passes; generally the longer period of validity you buy the more you save but make sure you get insurance on passes valid for a month or more if it's available to you.
Day/Week tickets are usually purchased from the driver on board the bus whereas monthly and above tickets are generally purchased from a Bus Station / Travel Centre and require a passport photo so that you can share it with your friends.
If you use the train then it is possible to purchase a Season ticket between any two destinations on the network. These aren't as flexible as bus passes as you can't use your ticket to travel to stations on other lines.
In some areas; the regional government or transport executive will run their own travel card scheme; these are often multi-modal which means that you can use the same pass on all buses, trains and trams within a particular zone or region; regardless of the operator.

Local Travel Card Schemes
West Yorkshire
Metro organises public transport in West Yorkshire and sells MetroCards, multi-modal travelcards for use on all buses and certain trains (depending on the zones chosen) that operate in the region.
There are 5 rail-zones; Leeds is Zone 1 and the zones increase the further away you get from Leeds.
The student version of the pass is the Student Plus MetroCard which costs £13.70/week and £51.50/month, it can be used on all buses and all trains and can be purchased from Metro Travel Centres in bus / train stations and Post Offices.
For less frequent use; DayRovers can be purchased, these cost £3.80 for a bus or train version or £4.50 for both. If two adults are travelling then the Family version works out cheaper at £6.00.
