Introduction
The topic of training in hardware and software is crucial regarding green computing, it can be divided into different areas such as, approaches to training staff, the benefits of training staff, and examples of company’s using these techniques and how educating staff benefits saving energy and recycling. We feel training is very important to ensure a friendly environment. Axiomtech
Benefits to training staff
There are many advantages to training staff, staff may not understand how crucial leaving power on whilst not at the computer is whilst trying to encourage green computing. This graph shows the power loss that can be caused, We can see the benefits of training staff would save a lot of power loss and save energy and recycling, staff may not be aware of this loss without training therefore staff will be more educated and a friendly environment will be achievable
IBM’s Big Green project
This is IBM’s project to dramatically reduce the amount of energy they use throughout their business. They have employed over 850 experts in green computing to put the $1 billion a year the company has invested into this project to valuable use.
They have also incorporated a five step approach, which is designed to dramatically improve energy efficiency. The five steps are: Diagnose: Evaluate existing facilities -- energy assessment, virtual 3-D power management and thermal analytics Build: Plan, build or update to an energy efficient data centre Virtualize: Virtualize IT infrastructures and special purpose processors Manage: Seize control with power management software Cool: Exploit liquid cooling solutions -- inside and out of the data centre

Approaches to training
There are many different approaches employers can choose to educate staff in green computing. On site training is probably the most beneficial as staff are actually on the job doing what they should be. There are possible opportunities for off the job training which would most probably involve someone from the organisation lecturing staff, other approaches involve manuals and user guides that staff could learn from, these have advantages such as staff can look at these in there own time.
The importance of training
Training is important for all organisations large and small in order for employees to adapt to change, simple things like unplugging devices when not using them, or closing down programs will enhance green computing. No employer hould underestimate green computing, either large or small and should each adapt to different methods to train staff, here is a few ways
