Why a Music Production Analysis Wiki?
The aim of the Music Production Analysis Wiki (MPAW) is to develop a body of work which looks specifically at the sound of recordings. Most wikis and other websites only look at the history of a band or producer, the technology or the celebrity. The production sound is, after all, the thing that really gets us excited about and involved in the music. MPAW is an in-development resource for students of recording who are interested in sound and in developing the skills to understand how music production works. MPAW will cover several areas:
- Methods of analysis
- Analysis of songs or tracks
- The creative impact of producers
- Analysis of genre sounds
In addition we hope to create a database of effects and examples of how they have been used in recordings.
Contributions
Contributions to MPAW can be made by creating a new page or by amending an existing entry.
It is worth remembering that this is an educational site and as such, we ask that you ensure that your contribution contains accurate references or appropriate links to websites. For the moment, contributions to the wiki can only be accessed by students/staff with a dotacdotuk mailbox address but we hope that the site may be of interest to students and researchers from outside of the UK
Researchers
Research papers or wiki articles are welcome on the site. Please log in and add your research. Articles longer than 700 words should be stored as an attachment with the abstract and the first paragraph forming the main text in the MPAW window.
Producers
It is perfectly acceptable for producers to create links to your own work so that other people can explore your sounds and techniques. We would particularly welcome commentary and analysis of techniques and ideas related to your output. The more insight into the sounds of production , the better.
