Entertainment Management
From TheStudentWiki
The BA (Hons) degree in Entertainment Management at Leeds Met is situated within the Tourism Centre which is a part of the Leslie Silver International Faculty. It has been designed in recognition of growth in the creative and cultural industry sector. It aims to provide graduates with appropriate knowledge and skills to progress into management careers within the entertainment sector, managing facilities such as theme parks, theatres, cinemas, live music venues, museums, art galleries, broadcast media companies and night clubs.
The creative and cultural industries are growing at twice the rate of the UK economy, with similar patterns occurring across the world. This growth is linked to increased consumer expenditure on recreation and entertainment activities. The result is a population assigning greater importance to the free time they have and a consequential willingness to spend more of their income on the ‘experience’ economy. The main focus of this course will be on: the cultural heritage; broadcast media; music; performing, literary and visual arts; and tourist attraction sectors which provide enjoyment, amusement or education for their customers.
Students on the course learn to manage using a mixture of both broad-based business and specialised industry skills. With regular industry experience at every level of the course, students soon develop the key skills needed to become a highly competent and a professional individual. Upon successful completion of this course, graduates are able to approach Entertainment Management with self-confidence and will have a global overview enabling a management career within the entertainment management industry. Throughout the course students participate in a number of industrial visits, in 2006 these included Oceana, Hyde Park Picture House, Wakefield Theatre, the National Media Museum and Tropical World.
The Entertainment Management students visit Tropical World in 2006.
The Entertainment Management students visit Wakefield Theatre in 2006.
