Introduction
All Bar One is a formulaic chain bar set in the centre of Leeds, it is a stylish bar where people enjoy food and drink in a contemporary environment. The bar is owned and operated by Mitchells and Butlers. (All bar one Leeds, 2007)
The Venue
All Bar One sits just 2 streets down from the centre of Leeds. You are welcomed with big glass doors which lead you into a dimly lit bar area with a variety of seating areas, ranging from sofas to relax on to tables and chairs where you can enjoy quality food and drink from the bar.
Above shows All Bar Ones bar area, as you can see the drinks range from draught beer to bottled wine and spirits.
The Atmosphere
The bar starts to get busy at around 6pm and as seating is limited for large crowds getting there earlier is always key. The atmosphere is always friendly and unlike clubs the bar doesnt have the problem with overly drunk teenagers starting fights. This is where All Bar One have the edge over some of those more rowdy places as it doesnt gain a bad name through disorderly behaviour by the guests as its clientele is more classy. (Arkley, 2007)
Promotion
All Bar One dont actually have a way of promoting their bar. They tend to stay away from this as they look for a more ‘High Class’ clientele. Managers feel that if they were to start handing out flyers etc then anyone would come into the bar and their current reputation with their already existing clients would drop dramatically. (Arkley,2007)
Popular nights and clients
Unlike a club the bar does not hold different themed events. It is the same setting every night, stylish, relaxed and quirky. All Bar One attracts a very sophisticated and refined market, usually those involved in big businesses e.g. Banks. Those of this come in to have either a relaxed meeting or just a drink after work. The bar also has people coming in for a night out and for special occasions, however they seem to be most popular with the business people, and if they were to lose this type of clientele the bar would struggle. (Arkley, 2007) In general the bar’s most popular nights are Thursday’s, Fridays and Saterdays like most social venues. However unlike clubs All Bar One does get very busy during week nights after work.
Staff
The bar employs six full time staff members. 70 percent of these are students studying either at Leeds Metropolitan University or Leeds University. 30 percent of them have had a previous job in an All Bar One from home where contact has been made with Leeds and jobs have been given. (Arkley, 2007)
